Details
Arnaldo Pomodoro’s Il Grande Disco was installed on October 2, 1974 and is Charlotte’s oldest public sculpture and one of its most photographed.
Located at the busy intersection of Trade and Tryon, near the Bank of America headquarters, the piece was originally commissioned by North Carolina National Bank and is now part of The Mint Museum’s collection. Installed during a time of rapid city growth, it symbolized Charlotte’s forward-looking spirit. While the sculpture once rotated, it is now fixed in place.
FUN FACT: The sculpture has been featured prominently in several movies filmed in Charlotte, one of those being the 2002 film Juwanna Mann.
