This month, we sit down with NEA Jazz Master, drummer, vibraphonist, composer, and educator Jason Marsalis, the youngest of America's "First Family of Jazz". It’s been a tumultuous year for music, and for the Marsalis family with the loss of Marsalis patriarch, the great Ellis Marsalis. We’ll talk about the state of jazz and carrying the torch forward.

Combining talent with a maverick spirit, Jason Marsalis grew in popularity as a founding member of the multi-award-winning Latin-jazz group Los Hombres Calientes in 1998, shifted to a more classic jazz sound with the Marcus Roberts Trio in early 2000s, and then began leading as a vibraphonist in his jazz compositions and performances. In 2012, he recorded with the Native Jazz Quartet, arranging folk songs into jazz tunes. He continues to explore and receive accolades for his sticks, mallets, and pen.

Tune in every 2nd Tuesday of the month to discover outstanding musicians, past and present, regional and international. Our interactive events are a chance for you to engage with the artists who are usually up on the stage.
