Trigger warning: these are very polarized times, and as comedians, there seems to be nothing we can say that will not upset some one. Our intention is never to hurt, but to entertain. We believe deeply that by poking fun at our perceived differences and laughing together, we can contribute to the healing of our fractured community. So if you are easily upset by your values being made fun of, then please avoid CCT events, because we make fun of everyone, with the understanding that in reality, we are all ONE.
What is The VAPA Center? It is The Visual & Performing Arts Center of Charlotte, and the only one like it in the US, that includes both performing and visual artists in the same building. CCT is a founding member of VAPA. There are over 120 artists studios in the center along with galleries, meeting spaces, workshops, and lecture halls, like CCT's. The space was provided to local artists by Mecklenburg County, and VAPA is a non profit entity.
Food/Beverage: There is currently a tea bar in the main lobby (non alcoholic), and CCT has soft drinks and snacks for sale at our box office. VAPA plans on eventually having a bar in the lobby, and food trucks outside, but we are just opening in early of 2022, so it is a work in progress. CCT guests are allowed to bring in drinks in water bottles and snacks if they so choose.
Parking: Parking is free right in front of the building, the County sign may still be at the entrance and there are two sets of double doors, the entrance is the set in the middle of the building. If the main lot is full, our guests can park for free across college street, or up one block in paid public parking at 9th and Tryon.
Security: The area of uptown that VAPA occupies is undergoing changes & transient neighbors are often near our building since that is where outreach programs assist people in need. We have had no major issues and are respectful of this vulnerable population as they have remained respectful of our tenants and guests. We do have lot cameras and security personnel on site during normal business hours. We suggest, as in any major city, that our guests take typical safety precautions and we are not responsible for any loss, theft or damage while on VAPA/County property.
