July continues the outdoor summer series Jazz at Victoria Yards in uptown Charlotte In partnership with Charlotte Center City Partners showcasing a variety of the region’s top jazz musicians, to rock the stage at uptown Victoria Yards.
For July, we begin with jazz standards by the Ariel Pocock Trio. Ariel Pocock’s music has a “true facility for…sinewy jazz piano [and] breezy, achingly plain-spoken vocal chops…” (Seattle Times). Ariel has recorded 3 albums and we’ve enjoyed Ariel at the Jazz Festival and in the JAZZ ROOM several times, including the 2019 Holiday Edition Piano Night and March 2019 Women in Jazz. This trio will feature Ron Brendle on bass, Troy Conn and Scott Sawyer on guitar, and John Spurrier on drums.
As the sun sets, we’ll spice it up with Jazziando. This quintet, co-led by Percussionist Billy Marrero and Trumpeter Alberto Carrasquillo, performs instrumental Latin Jazz with Brazilian infused rhythms, a drum beat beyond the generic salsa, jazzy versatility and a rock heavy Cuban downbeat. Sit back and enjoy their sound, or get on the dance floor moving to the mambos.
We’ll also have the JazzArts Youth All-Stars to showcase the future stars of jazz right here in Charlotte. This group includes Gustavo Cruz, Samuel David, & Olivia Ratliff
Food trucks will be on hand for all of your refreshment needs while enjoying the music – KIckin Kitchen American favorites, Potbelly BBQ, Hip Hop Smoothies, and Resident Culture Brewing. Some chairs will be available – you are encouraged to bring your own if desired.
