The Jazz Legacy Project is a series that ditches traditional textbook in favor of performing the songs and telling the stories of pivotal jazz artists.
Created in 2015 after an epiphany bandleader Justin Varnes had while teaching Jazz History at Georgia State University, the Jazz Legacy Project has been selling out the Velvet Note jazz club in Atlanta for 6 years and counting. Throughout the evening of music, this performance adds insight into what to listen for, relationships with American cultural shifts and connections to time and events in history, opening up a new world when listening to it.
