The sound of a favorite song has the ability to almost immediately transport us to a specific, even nostalgic time and place in our history.
Hearing the voice of someone we know well, adds another layer of complexity through emotions associated with that particular person.
Artist-in-Residence Sarah Sudhoff explores voicemails left for her before, during and days after an emotional and physical assault by her former long-term partner.
These voicemails are juxtaposed with sound bytes of Sudhoff’s voice recorded in an interview as she recounts her memory of that night, nearly a year later, with the woman who found Sudhoff wandering the streets at 3am and who offered her help and provided shelter.
Sound Signatures or She said, He said will engage audiences through a live performance as Sudhoff creates unique independent audio cassettes, which will seemingly converse with one another through the repetition of emotionally rich phrases, exploring memory, trauma, courage, and forgiveness of self and others.
