Charlotte, 7 June 2022 - On June 25, the Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery will open the exhibition “THE MAS BETWEEN US” .
The exhibition which is part of the Caribbean Heritage Month observance features the works of photographer Joanne Rogers and her husband painter Arthur Rogers. The captivating exhibition is a colorful and visually exciting collection of photographs and paintings about the Caribbean celebration of culture, folklore, and tradition.
The photography of Joanne Rogers focuses on celebrating the diversity of the human experience. A native of Trinidad and Tobago,
Joanne is a self-taught photographer, gallery owner, and curator. She enjoys capturing simple details and moments of joy.
The carnival paintings of Arthur Rogers are newly returned from an exhibition, SOUL FINGER PROJECT, hosted by the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center in Portsmouth, VA. The 4-person exhibition showcased works influenced by contemporary Black Culture that traces its roots to North Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond. His goal is to connect the viewer with the music of carnival through his art. Soca is the soundtrack to carnival and the inspiration for the narrative.

The NINE EIGHTEEN NINE STUDIO GALLERY is located in the new VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (VAPA), at 700 N. Tryon.
Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM, or by appointment.
The exhibition will run through July 05, 2022.
