This year’s winter solstice is especially exciting because Jupiter and Saturn will be at their closest proximity for the first time since 1623. This planetary alignment is known as the Great Conjunction, and the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and Raleigh Astronomy Club (RAC) have teamed up to offer a free virtual skywatching of the event.
