Festival of India is organized to showcase that diversity of culture and heritage to the larger community in the Carolinas and provides an excellent opportunity for cultural exchange in a fun setting. The festival exposes people here to the rich mosaic of different art, crafts, languages, couture and cuisine from the various regions of India in a festive setting. The result is to enhance the education of our fellow citizens about the rich heritage of an ancient civilization with the expectation of bringing different people together. Our linkage and collaboration (e.g: theme India exhibit contest) with the Charlotte Middle schools, reflects our keen desire to educate and broaden the horizon of young people to the rich cultures from other parts of the world.

The Festival brings the best talent within the community to highlight a fusion of popular modern (Bollywood) and classical Indian dance forms, in captivating performances that educate and enthrall people of all ages.

The festival is organized by the India Association of Charlotte a nonprofit cultural organization established to serve the growing Indian American Community in the Charlotte area. Its primary mission is to share Indian culture with the people of the larger community and foster a better understanding of the cultural diversity of India in an effort to make our Queen City a truly world class city. For more information, please send email to info@indiafestival.net

The festival draws over 20,000 visitors from Charlotte and the surrounding areas. The best way to summarize the impact of the festival is to paraphrase a comment we have heard repeatedly during the festival. “This has been a great opportunity for me as a Charlottean to get a taste of Indian culture and experiencing and understanding a bit more about India without leaving Charlotte. Other activities in addition to Charlotte Idol vocal competition include live dramas on Indian American themes.

A large Food Court on the street offers a range of popular Indian delicacies to tickle the palate. In addition, various Indian souvenirs, costumes, jewelry and other works are displayed for viewing and buying.

Activities for children include Kids Art Corner and Kids Art competition, in addition to all the dancing and singing activities.

Don't miss out on all the fun including Yoga demo, a Henna tattoo, Saree demo and dancing on the street to pulsating Indian music beats.
