Transit & Bike Share
If you don’t want to drive, bus, light rail and bike- or scooter-shares are available to transport you into and throughout Uptown. Charlotte Joy Rides is Charlotte’s urban bike-sharing program, made possible in part by Blue Cross Blue Shield NC. Purchase your access pass online or at one of the 33 stations.
Scooter-sharing is also a popular way to get around South End. Multiple vendors have popped up around Charlotte, and rentable scooters are steps away. Directions to rent are right on the scooter.
Perhaps the most carefree (and car-free) way to get around is via CATS buses or light rail. Buses operate from 4:49 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Saturday, and 5:25 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Sundays. Twelve express routes serve this area. The LYNX Blue Line is centrally located in Uptown. Weekday service operates from 5:26 a.m. to 1:26 a.m. and service is available every 10 minutes during weekday rush hour and every 15 minutes during non-peak hours. Weekend service operates every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes during late night hours. View schedules and find other details to navigate the CATS system (including a variety of mobile apps) here.
