It's Time to SHOUT!

Charlotte SHOUT! is back starting Friday, April 3, and for 17 days, Uptown turns into one big, colorful playground filled with art, music, food, and interactive experiences. It’s one of those rare events where you can wander without a strict plan and still stumble into something fantastical around every corner.

With more than 200 events and attractions spread across Uptown, Charlotte SHOUT! is built for exploring. Think giant art installations, live performances, pop-up experiences, and hands-on activities that keep kids engaged and parents just as entertained.

This year’s theme leans into curiosity, which means there’s a lot to discover together. You might turn a corner and find a surprise performance, walk through a hidden alley installation, or catch a live artist painting and their masterpiece coming to life.

Things families will especially love

There’s plenty designed with all ages in mind, but a few highlights are especially fun for kids:

  • Stamp Stop
    Think of this as a city-wide scavenger hunt. Kids can collect stamps at different stops throughout Uptown, giving them a mission while you explore.
  • Curiosity Courtyard + Wonder Dome
    A new hub for interactive learning and creativity, featuring student art and performances from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
  • Weci | Koninut
    Six massive dream catchers create an immersive, walk-through experience inspired by Indigenous storytelling and the seasons. It’s visually stunning and quietly educational.
  • Eggs on Parade
    Larger-than-life Easter eggs designed by local artists. Bright, playful, and perfect for photos (and letting kids pick their favorite).
  • !cons
    Giant exclamation marks scattered throughout Uptown, each one uniquely designed. Another fun “spot them all” activity.
  • EdgeFest
    Watch artists create murals in real time using spray paint. It’s fast, colorful, and surprisingly mesmerizing for all ages.

Built-in breaks: food, snacks, and treats

No family outing works without snacks, and SHOUT! makes that easy.

The Sip, Snack. SHOUT! program brings special menu items and treats to Uptown restaurants and vendors, so you can grab something quick or sit down and recharge between activities.

There’s also a full-on food celebration during Charlotte StrEATs (April 10–12), where local chefs and restaurants show off their best bites.

Weekend moments to plan around

If you’re thinking about when to go, weekends naturally bring the most energy:

  • Live music on stages like Victoria Yards
  • Street performances and pop-ups
  • More artists actively creating work in real time

And if your family loves food experiences, the Carolina BBQ Festival (April 17–19) brings pitmasters, live music, and plenty of space to hang out.

A festival that grows with your kids

One of the best parts of Charlotte SHOUT! is that it works for a wide range of ages. Younger kids will love the colors, movement, and interactive pieces, while older kids and teens can get into the art, music, and ideas programming.

There’s even a more thought-provoking side with the Charlotte Ideas Festival (April 9–14), which brings in speakers and conversations for curious minds.

The best way to do it

If you want a stress-free, kid-friendly game plan, here’s an easy loop that hits all the highlights without overthinking it:

Start by parking at The Green. It’s central, easy, and gives you a great jumping-off point.

From there, wander over to Eggs on Parade and let the kids lead the way. They’ll love spotting each egg and picking favorites, and it naturally gets everyone moving through Uptown.

Next, make your way toward Levine Avenue of the Arts to find Los Trompos. These colorful, oversized spinning tops are fully interactive and always a hit, expect kids (and honestly, adults) to want to stay here a while.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head to 7th Street Public Market for a snack break. It’s quick, casual, and has something for everyone, which is exactly what you want mid-adventure.

After refueling, walk over to Victoria Yards to catch live music on the main stage. Even if you only stay for a few songs, it’s a great way to slow things down and soak in the energy of the festival.

Wrap things up with a stroll through First Ward Park, where there’s usually more art, open space for kids to run around, and a few last surprises along the way.

It’s an easy, walkable route that mixes play, art, food, and music and leaves just enough room for those unexpected SHOUT! moments that end up being everyone’s favorite part of the day.

Because at Charlotte SHOUT!, the magic usually happens in the in-between moments, the unexpected performance, the hidden installation, the thing your kids won’t stop talking about on the way home.
