The Ultimate Guide to Uptown’s Latta Arcade & Brevard Court

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Latta Arcade, and Brevard Court are some of Uptown Charlotte’s most significant early 20th-century commercial landmarks still in place. Built in 1914 and opened in 1915, the two-level art deco arcade features rows of retail shops, restaurants, and offices under a skylit roof that was originally designed to provide natural light for grading cotton. The historic property has been home to many businesses over the years, including a cotton brokerage firm, Edward Dilworth Latta’s development company Charlotte Consolidated Construction and the architecture office of William Peeps—the designer of the building.

When you step inside the inconspicuous entrance of Latta Arcade on Tryon Street, you’ll be transported back in time. The pedestrian passageway from Tryon Street through the building leads out to Brevard Court, an open-air, light-covered brick courtyard that extends to Church Street and Romare Bearden Park. Commonly called the French Quarter (the name of one of the courtyard’s anchor restaurants), Brevard Court also features a variety of shops and culinary options with outdoor seating.

From Tryon to Church Street, here’s your guide to the current lineup of businesses—many local small businesses—in Uptown’s historic Latta Arcade and Brevard Court.
